WELCOME TO 7th GRADE LIFE SCIENCE!!!!!
I would like to welcome you to John Read Middle School and to my science classroom. I am looking forward to a very exciting and rewarding year. My approach to teaching science involves an inquiry-based, hands-on approach. There will be many opportunities for laboratory investigations this year. We will spend time learning to use appropriate tools and techniques to gather, analyze, and interpret data. Our units of study will include: Inquiry and Scientific Method; Cells and Heredity; Human Body Systems and Disease; Five Kingdoms and Characteristics of Living Things; and Classification and Taxonomy.
SCIENCE MATERIALS NEEDED - Please bring the following to class each day:
· Pencils/erasers
· Blue or black pens
· Colored pencils (optional)
· 3-ring binder, college lined paper and five subject dividers
· Agenda/Planner
COMMUNICATION - Communication and parental involvement is vital to the success of a child’s education.
STUDENTS: If you have a question, concern, or need help with science, please let me know as soon as possible. Students may conference with me
typically before school (Tu/Th 8:15-8:45) or another time that can be arranged.

GRADING POLICY - The marking period grade is based on the number of points earned during that period. Please access the PowerSchool gradebook for
current grades. The following point values will be given for each:
· Homework/notebook: generally worth 5 points
· Tests and large projects: 80-100 points
· Quizzes: 10-50 points
· Lab reports: 30-100 points (depending on difficulty, involvement and length)
· Daily classwork and participation: points will vary
